Official University Overview
I.N. Ulyanov Chuvash State University has been educating and training doctors since 1967. It’s located in Cheboksary, and it is the capital of the Chuvash Republic, it is roughly around four to five hours away from Moscow by train. The medical faculty is what drew international students in, and that hasn’t changed yet.
Currently, the university runs with 15 faculties and 82 departments, with more than 20,000 students enrolled from 69 Russian regions and over 55 countries. It has roughly around 2,600+ international students, and Indian students are a large group.
What Indian students actually need to know?
The MBBS is a six-year course taught in English. No IELTS or TOEFL required. NEET is mandatory under NMC rules, not the universities. Total cost across six years is below than most of the Indian private medical college fees. The degree is recognised by the NMC, WHO, GMC, and USMLE, and listed in FAIMER.

Admissions for 2026–27 are open
Seats go on a rolling basis and they do fill. Indian students majorly target the September intake and it is advised to start paperwork three to four months prior to the intake. The university runs the Medical Journal of Chuvash, hosts national scientific conferences, and has exchange agreements with 69 institutions across 11 countries.
Campus facts
Four academic buildings, each has 20 lecture halls. The anatomy museum is the region’s largest with more 700 original specimens. Library has 160,000+ volumes and digital access. Clinical training goes beyond 39 hospital bases, 2,500+ beds total. Ten hostels, it separated by gender. Even there is a pool, gym, and outdoor courts. The Indian mess has both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
